Time to leave Andalucia. It has been a very good stay, producing a lot of experiences and views. Also done another 2091 kilometers on the bike and have so far totalled nearly 6000 km.
Before getting back to mum and dad again, there were still a few things, literally down the road.
First of all another stint of mountain roads, this time south of Sierra Nevada. As beautiful and nice as ever, but why doesn't Spain have parking spots and viewpoints along their roads as other countries? Admittedly there are some "mirador" places here and there but not nearly as abundant as other countries. That there aren't any cafes I understand, as any village have a bar or restaurant. If you want coffee, go to nearest village. But for viewspots, it simply seems spanish people use their roads for transportation from A to B and that's it. The somewhat dull thing about this is that even if the views are pretty marvellous most of the time, there are no ways to stop and capture it all on camera.
Anyway, made my way through Sierra Nevada, Almeria and on to the south-eastern most point of Spain. The place where south coast turns into east coast, Cabo da Gata. There the road ended.
Got hailed by a local artist, cheating as sort of tourist guide. He hauled up a map and pen, and began explaining that "Las Negras" probably was my kind of campsite. Industrial kind of mega-camping, abandoned for the season but still open. I was only to stay over night, so suited me fine. The surroundings were nice though, situated in what in previous times would have been an ideal smugglers cove. Spent an hour by the beach, just looking at birds and meditating.
Last leg back, next day, was along the coast way N332. Really taught what tourism industry by the "Costa del Sol" is all about. Horrendous and I sincerelly do not understand why all those thousands of European tourists want to be there. Loads of inexperienced drivers in rental cars or on scooters, driving 30 kph on 70 kph roads, road bumps and roundabouts en masse. Stay away!
Eventually however, I made it through pergatory and is now safelly arrived at my parents again. Here I'll do a full service of the bike and plan for the last stage, back home. Will be very soon and a lot of dual carriageway, as fall is coming and neither light nor wheather is improving the longer I stay. I have no intention of hibernating in Spain...

It doesn't matter what you do, the pics of these roads never convey the feeling of actually driving them. Although good tarmac and wide, this is twisty and steep. Much. At the same time. |
